Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his Instagram Channel – “Good morning! New product announcement: this week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified a — subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support. This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS. We’ll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon.”

Even though Meta hasn’t yet provided any details regarding the programme, rumours of the new subscription service have been circulating for a few days. TechDroider claims that Meta Verified will only be accessible for verifying profiles and not Pages. On Saturday, Tech portal posted a screenshot of what appeared to be a policy page on Twitter to back up the assertion. It said, “To get a verified badge for your profile, sign up for Meta Verified. Please take note that Meta Verified is only accessible for profiles, not for pages. A validated badge application is still open to Noteworthy Pages.”

This comes after Twitter, another social media platform, began to charge a premium under the Twitter Blue membership, which gives subscribers a blue tick. On the website and mobile app, the paid service is available to Indian consumers for 650 and 900 INR per month, respectively.
